UNIT H
The Market Studios encompass an exhibition and project space 'Unit H' which is currently curated by Deirdre Morrissey & Claire Behan who are supported by a creative panel. The gallery is programmed via a selective process in the interim periods. The exhibition space is also available to lease for a range of artist-initiated exhibitions, events and workshops. Gallery rental for one week is €300 with a discounted rate available for one off events.
Unit H has established a reputation as a considered exhibition space and its curators/directors have provided both invited and studio artists with an outlet for their work in curated exhibitions and in many off site projects both locally and nationally. In the past three years Unit H has seen a dynamic variety of exhibitions and established itself as a platform for a diverse range of artist-led workshops and events. It has facilitated over 60 exhibitions and events showcasing the new work of over 200 recent graduate, emerging and established professional artists.
About the curators
Claire Behan is an artist and curator based in Dublin City. Behan’s recent work is informed and led by current theories guiding research on reminiscence, and the implications of viewing it as a type of autobiographical memory. At present she is developing work in audio, film, photography and sculptural installations, which embrace collaboration, negotiation and co-production. Her interests as both artist and curator lie in exploring and developing strategies of engaging distinct communities endeavouring to explore their individual and collective histories and social environs.
Behan graduated from D.I.T. with a BA in Sculpture (2000) and MA in Visual Art Practices from I.A.D.T. (2007). She is co-director and co-founder of The Market Studios, Dublin and curator of its programmed exhibition space Unit H.
Deirdre Morrissey is an artist and curator based in Dublin. Her interests as a curator lie in exploring art practices that seek to develop alternative strategies of engaging with its audience. As well as co curating the Unit H exhibition programme at The Market Studios, she has also been involved in many independent curatorial projects. Many of these exhibitions and events have been ephemeral in nature and often socially engaged. She has recently recieved Dublin City Council's Emerging Curator award 2011. As part of D.C.C. Summer Arts Programme, Deirdre curated What Alice Found There, a live art/ site specific series of events in St Anne’s Park, Raheny in June '11.
Morrissey graduated from D.I.T. with a BA in Fine Art (2003) and MA in Visual Art Practices from I.A.D.T. (2006).
